Japan reports 820 new virus cases, total at 99,468

TOKYO, Oct 29 (KUNA) - Japan reported 820 new cases of the coronavirus over the last 24 hours as of 04:00 p.m. (0700 GMT) on Thursday, raising the nation's total number to 99,468, the health ministry and local authorities said.
The country's cumulative death toll rose by nine to 1,742.
Tokyo added 221 new infections, topping 200 for the first time in five days, which brought the total cases in the Japanese capital to 30,677.
The tallies exclude those who were linked to the virus-hit Diamond Princess Cruise ship in February.
Since Oct. 1, Japan eased entry restrictions for foreigners from around the world, excluding tourists. The government now allows the entry of foreign nationals with permits to stay for at least three months, including business people and students, as well as those who are engaged in medical, educational, cultural and sports-related activities.
Previously, the country had imposed an entry ban on 159 countries and regions in principle. (end) mk.gta
