KUWAIT, Oct 26 (KUNA) -- The Ministry of Interior on Monday advised candidates to show full commitment to social distancing rules and preventive measures against the novel coronavirus while applying for the upcoming general elections, slated for December 5.
Undersecretary General Essam Al-Naham said during a visit to the makeshift election commission center that the ministry had drawn up a comprehensive plan to ensure staff and candidates safety and prevent spread of novel coronavirus during the reception of candidates, according to a ministry statement.
He underlined the need for sticking to relevant health instructions.
Earlier, the Ministry of Interior's electoral commission announced that 93 candidates, 85 males and 8 females, submitted their applications in the first day of the 10-day nomination period for the 2020 parliamentary elections.
The MoI set up a school, rather than its own headquarters, to receive candidates in order to ensure physical distancing as well as providing necessary health materials, like gloves and masks.
His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, during a visit to the electoral commission in district of Al-Shuwaikh yesterday, called on citizens registering nomination for upcoming elections to abide by precautions against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
The prime minister emphasized necessity of enforcing all necessary health measures during registration, affirming that the government doubled efforts to ensure safety of the employees and citizens registering their names as candidates for the forthcoming parliamentary polls.
