Suicide attack on educational institute kills 18 people in Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD, Oct 24 (KUNA) -- At least 18 people were killed and around 48 others received injuries in a suicide attack outside an educational center in Afghanistan's capital city Kabul on Saturday, said authorities.
Afghan Ministry of Public Health in a statement confirmed that an explosion happened outside an educational center in Pul-e-Khoshk area of Dasht-e-Barchi in the west of Kabul, killing 18 people and wounding 48 others.
Afghan Interior Ministry said that the suicide bomber was recognized by security guards of the educational center and detonated his explosives before reaching his target. The victims were the students who were waiting to enter the facility.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, however, the Taliban group has denied their involvement. The injured were shifted to the nearest medical facilities where the death toll is feared to rise.
The head of the High Council of National Reconciliation, Abdullah Abdullah in a statement condemned the suicide attack, saying it is inhuman and against Islamic principles and values.
A similar explosion happened in the west of Kabul in 2018, killing 48 students. The attack came on the day when at least 15 people, including six security personnel, were killed in an attack on security personnel and two roadside explosions in Afghanistan's southwestern Nimroz and central Ghazni provinces.
