Attacks in Afghanistan kill 15 people

ISLAMABAD, Oct 24 (KUNA) -- At least 15 people, including six security personnel, were killed in an attack on security personnel and two roadside explosions in Afghanistan's southwestern Nimroz and central Ghazni provinces, said officials on Saturday.
A spokesman for National Water Management Authority, Nizam Khpulwak in a statement to the media on Saturday said that at least six security personnel assigned for the protection of the Kamal Khan hydroelectric and irrigation dam in Nimroz province were killed in an attack by the Taliban.
He further said that two security personnel were wounded in the attack near the Kamal Khan dam, which is under construction by the government. However, Taliban rebels have not commented on the attack.
Moreover, at least nine people, including eight civilians, were killed in two roadside bombings in the central city of Ghani on Saturday. The spokesman for Ghazni governor, Wahidullah Jumazada said that the first explosion happened in Rawza area in Ghazi city when a vehicle struck a roadside bomb in which eight civilians, including four women, were killed and one more was wounded.
He said the second explosion happened when a security forces vehicle struck a roadside bomb as they arrived at the first explosion's scene.
Earlier on Friday, at least 20 members of the Afghan National Army (ANA) were killed in an attack by Taliban fighters in Afghanistan's Nimroz province.
The Taliban last week had blamed the United States forces in Afghanistan for violating the deal; the two sides signed in Doha back in February. However, US forces in Afghanistan in a statement rejected the statement by the Taliban.
The accusation came in contrast to intra-Afghan talks underway between the delegation representing the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Taliban in Doha, Qatar. But the two sides so far have not managed to finalize the procedures and methods for conducting the formal negotiations. (end) sbk.mt
