Saudi Arabia allows prayers in Holy Mosque in Makkah

JEDDAH, Oct 18 (KUNA) -- Saudi Arabia said Sunday it would allow citizens and residents to pray in the Holy mosque in Makkah, seven months after suspending the ritual due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Allowing people to pray also marks the beginning of the second phase of return to performance of Umra (mini-pilgrimage) for people living inside Saudi Arabia, or 75 percent of total capacity of the mosque, the Ministry of Hajj and Umra said in a statement, cited by the SPA news agency.
It said all precautionary measures would be implemented to guarantee safety of worshippers in the Holy Mosque in Makkah.
Saudi Arabia suspended praying in the mosques in Makkah and Madina on March in a drive to curb spread of the virus. (end) nso.bs
