France declares State of Emergency due to COVID-19 spread

PARIS, Oct 14 (KUNA) -- France on Wednesday declared a national health emergency over all of its territory that will give expanded powers to authorities to help fight the rising spread of COVID-19, a government statement said.
President Emmanuel Macron is due to address the nation later in the evening to explain the State of Emergency and measures being taken against the virus.
Measures under consideration could involve a curfew or travel restrictions.
The State of Emergency will come into effect on Saturday, October 17. (end) jk.mb
