Switzerland: 1,487 new COVID-19 cases

GENEVA, Oct 9 (KUNA) -- Swiss authorities declared on Friday recording 1,487 new infection cases with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the highest rate of contaminations since June.
The Bern-headquartered ministry of state for health affairs said in a statement the new batch of contaminations raised the caseload to 60,368 while the death toll climbed to 1,794 after death of three patients yesterday (Thursday).
Number of patients who needed medical treatment and hospitalization reached 5,001, the statement added.
Medical authorities have conducted more than 1.4 million diagnostic tests since end of February.
They imposed house quarantine on 3,773 patients and isolated 9,443 others who had close contacts with this group. Meanwhile, number of people who were sequestered at their houses after flying back to the country from abroad amounted to 14,357.
Officials believe that resurgence of the contagion is largely due to easing of the lockdown and reopening the borders.
The authorities have listed a number of countries as unsafe, whereby travellers coming from these states are compelled to stay at home for ten days. (end) ta.rk
