Kuwait parliament blesses Sheikh Mishal Al-Sabah as Crown Prince

KUWAIT, Oct 8 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's National Assembly unanimously blessed Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as Crown Prince, in a special session held on Thursday.
All 59 members attending the special session blessed Sheikh Mishal.
"We would like to congratulate His Highness Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for the unanimous pledge of allegiance as Crown Prince of the National Assembly," speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim said His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah named Wednesday Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad as Crown Prince, Minister of Amiri Diwan Affairs Sheikh Ali Jarrah Al-Sabah announced.
Article IV of the Constitution states that Kuwait is a hereditary Emirate, successsion of which shall be in the descendants of late Mubarak Al-Sabah.
The Crown Prince shall be designated by His Highness the Amir within one year at the latest, from the date of accession of the Amir.
The designation shall be effected by the Amiri decree upon the nomination of the Amir and the approval of the National Assembly, which shall be signified by a majority vote or its member in a special sitting.
In case no designation is achieved in accordance with the foregoing procedure, the Amir shall nominate at least three of the descendants of the late Mubarak Al-Sabah of whom the parliament shall pledge allegiance to once as Heir Apparent. (end) jy.ns.bs
