Japan reports 190 new virus cases, total at 82,489

TOKYO, Sept 28 (KUNA) -- Japan reported 190 new cases of the coronavirus as of 4:00 p.m. (0700 GMT) on Monday, raising the nation's total number to 82,489, the health ministry and local authorities said.
The country's cumulative death toll stood at 1,551. Tokyo added 78 new cases, falling below 100 for the first time in five days, which brought the total cases in the Japanese capital to 25,335.
The tallies exclude those who were linked to the virus-hit Diamond Princess Cruise ship in February.
The government said Friday that it would ease entry restrictions for foreigners from around the world, excluding tourists, from October.
At a meeting of a government task force on coronavirus response, it decided to allow the entry of foreign nationals with permits to stay for at least three months, including business people and students, as well as those who are engaged in medical, educational, cultural and sports-related activities.
Tokyo is considering limiting the number of such visitors to about 1,000 per day. (end) mk.gta
