COVID-19 claims 1,039 lives in India, 82,170 positive cases

NEW DELHI, Sept 28 (KUNA) -- Indian government sources said on Monday that 1,039 people died due to COVID-19 as the number of new cases infected in the last 24 hours stood at 82,170.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare stated in its latest data that the death toll due to coronavirus mounted to 95,542 while the caseload so far mounted to 6,074,703.
It added that 5,016,521 people have recovered from the pandemic as it spread to most of the Indian states.
Maharashtra is the worst hit state with 273,646 active cases and 35,571 deaths followed by Karnataka with 104,743 active cases and 8,582 fatalities.
Andhra Pradesh registered 64,876 active cases and 5,708 deaths. Other severely hit states are Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, West Bengal, Bihar, Telangana and Odisha. (end) atk.mah
