S. Korea adds 50 new virus cases, total now at 23,661

TOKYO, Sept 28 (KUNA) -- South Korea added 50 new coronavirus cases on Monday, bringing the country's total caseload to 23,661, said Yonhap News Agency.
The daily new cases are the lowest in 48 days since August 11 when 34 cases were reported, the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said.
There were five additional deaths, raising the death toll to 406. Of the 40 new local infections, 19 reported in Seoul and 13 in the surrounding Gyeonggi Province.
The government has designated Monday to October 11 as a special period for strengthened virus curbs as many people are expected to travel during the Chuseok fall harvest holiday, which runs from Wednesday to Sunday.
In the latest measures, the operation of 11 types of "high-risk" facilities, including nightspots and buffets, in the densely populated Seoul area, are suspended for the special two-week virus fight period. (end) mk.gta
