Some 130 COVID-19 deaths in Spain, 20 others in Italy

MADRID, Sept 23 (KUNA) -- Spain on Wednesday reported 130 fatalities of COVID-19 and 4,143 new infections in 24 hours, bringing total deaths to 31,034 and cases to 693,556.
The Spanish health ministry said on its website that 61,659 people were diagnosed with the virus and 517 deaths were reported in the past seven days.
Infections reached 206,418 in Madrid, 133,751 in Catalonia and 53,752 in Andalusia since the outbreak of the pandemic, it added.
On Tuesday, Spain's health authorities reduced quarantine period to 10 days instead of 14 for those who come into close contact with the infected, without conducting a PCR test as long as they have no symposiums.
Meanwhile, Italy on Wednesday registered 20 deaths of the disease and 1,640 more cases in the last 24 hours.
These new figures pushed the death toll and the infections up to 35,748 and 302,537 respectively, the health ministry said in a statement.
The number of recoveries rose by 995 to 220,665, it added, noting that up to 244 cases are being treated at ICUs. (end) hnd.sma.mn.hm
