Japan reports 110 new virus cases, total at 80,012

TOKYO, Sept 23 (KUNA) -- Japan reported 110 new cases of the coronavirus as of 4:00 p.m. (0700 GMT) on Wednesday, raising the nation's total number to 80,012, the health ministry and local authorities said.
The country's cumulative death toll stood at 1,519.
Tokyo added 59 new cases, the lowest since June 30 when it registered 54 infections, which brought the total cases in the Japanese capital to 24,453.
The tallies exclude those who were linked to the virus-hit Diamond Princess cruise ship in February.
Amid a downward trend in fresh infections nationwide, the government to relaxed restrictions on sporting and other major events from Saturday.
It lifted the 5,000-fan limit at large-scale events, allowing them to have attendees of up to 50 percent of venue capacity. (end) mk.bs
