Kuwaiti Minister of Social Affairs Mariam Al-Aqeel
KUWAIT, Sept 18 (KUNA) -- Kuwaiti Minister of Social Affairs Mariam Al-Aqeel on Friday congratulated His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on a US award granted to him earlier today.
Al-Aqeel, who doubles as Minister of State for Economic Affairs, said in a statement that His Highness the Amir deserved this fresh honoring just as he was awarded the UN title of a Humanitarian Leader years ago thanks to his great humanitarian and altruistic efforts and role regionally and globally.
The minister wished His Highness the Amir swift recovery and return to his nation.
US President Donald Trump earlier Friday awarded the Legion of Merit, Degree Chief Commander, to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the White House announced.
"A leader in the Middle East for decades, (HH) the Amir has been a truly unwavering friend and partner to the United States," the White House said in a statement.
It added that His Highness the Amir "provided indispensable support to the United States throughout Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, and the Defeat-(IS) campaign." (end)
