Trump signs executive orders banning TikTok, WeChat

KUWAIT, July 7 (KUNA) -- US President Donald Trump issued late Thursday two executive orders against China owned apps TikTok and WeChat that would ban the companies from doing most business in the US that take effect in 45 days.
In the executive orders, Trump said that the two apps "automatically captures vast swaths of information from its users." He wrote, "This data collection threatens to allow the Chinese Communist Party access to Americans' personal and proprietary information." "The spread in the United States of mobile applications developed and owned by companies in the People's Republic of China (China) continues to threaten the national security, foreign policy, and economy of the United States," the orders stressed.
Earlier his week, Trump told reporters that TikTok would end US operations September 15 if it was not sold to a US company. (end) si.gta
