US imposes financial sanctions on smugglers network in Libya

WASHINGTON, Aug 6 (KUNA) -- The US, on Thursday, imposed financial sanctions on a network of smugglers contributing to the instability in Libya, said US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
In a statement, Pompeo said, "These individuals include Libyan national Faysal Al-Wadi, operator of the vessel Maraya, and his two associates, Musbah Mohamad and Nourddin Milood Musbah, and the Malta-based company, Alwefq Ltd." Pompeo noted that Al-Wadi has worked with a network of contacts in North Africa and Southern Europe to smuggle fuel from, and illicit drugs through, Libya to Malta.
Today's sanctions show that the US will take concrete actions in response to those who undermine Libya's peace, security, or stability, he added. (end) asj.aa
