COVID-19 continues raging on worldwide

KUWAIT, Aug 5 (KUNA) - COVID-19 keeps on raging with overall number of global cases passing the 18.5-million mark, while deaths have surpassed 700,000, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
Starting in the Middle East region, where recently-shattered Beirut, Lebanon announced three COVID-19 deaths (68 in total) and 355 new cases 71, bringing the country's total cases to 5,417.
Lebanese Health Ministry's daily report said the figures are for the last 48 hours.
Cured cases increased to 1,870, it added.
In Morocco, the health ministry said 18 people (435 in total) lost their lives for COVID-19, while 1,283 people tested positive for the virus in the past 24 hours to raise number of registered cases to 28,500.
Muath Lamrabet, coordinator of the national center of emergencies at the MoH, told a daily press briefing that 365 more recovered, taking the tally to 19,994.
Heading up north to Spain, the health ministry said that one person succumbed to coronavirus in the past 24 hours, putting the death toll in one of Europeآ’s worst-affected nations at 28,499 with a caseload of 305,767 after 2,953 people tested positive.
Meanwhile, European peer Italy saw 10 death deaths during the last 24 hours.
In its daily report, the Italian Health Ministry said that the virus death toll reached 35,181, while the total number of infections climbed to 248,803 after confirming 384 new cases.
Up to 200,766 people recovered from the disease since the virus outbreak.
Austrian health authorities on announced 85 new COVID-19 cases raising total number of confirmed cases to 21,565.
No deaths were reported today, keeping the total at 719.
Heading back to the Mediterranean, Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca announced 19 new COVID-19 deaths and 1,178 infections during the last 24 hours.
The Turkish news agency (Anadolu) quoted the minister as saying that the total number of infections climbed to 236,112 and the deaths to 5,784.
He noted that 219,506 people recovered from the virus in the country so far after recording 1,015 new cases during the past 24 hours.
In neighbour Greece, one death and 124 new COVID-19 cases were reported, bringing the total cases to 4,973. The death toll is at 210.
Mauritanian Ministry of Health said 26 people tested positive for the virus to raise total cases to 6,444.
A MoH statement said 82 people recovered to 5,291 and death cases remain at 157.
Yemen reported two deaths and three infections in the eastern governorate of Hadhramawt, raising fatalities to 508 and cases to 1,763. The country also reported 31 recoveries to 894.
Egyptian MoH said 18 people died of the virus and 123 others were infected by the disease.
Ministry spokesman Dr. Khaled Mujahed said in a statement total deaths reached 4,930 and infections 94,875 while tally of recoveries reached 47,182. (end) kt.hb
