US signs USD one bln deal with Jansen for COVID-19 vaccine

WASHINGTON, Aug 5 (KUNA) -- The US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced, Wednesday, a USD one billion agreement with pharmaceutical Johnson & Johnson company to acquire 100 million doses of the investigative COVID-19 vaccine.
A statement by the Department said that it has reached, in partnership with the Department of Defense, an agreement with the pharmaceutical company (Jansen) of (Johnson & Johnson) to manufacture and deliver its vaccine for COVID-19 so that the federal government will have 100 million doses of the vaccine under the terms of the agreement.
"With the portfolio of vaccines being assembled for Operation Warp Speed, the Trump Administration is increasing the likelihood that the United States will have at least one safe, effective vaccine by 2021," said HHS Secretary Alex Azar. (end) rsr.aa
