Lebanon names president’s advisor as new foreign minister

BEIRUT, Aug 3 (KUNA) -- Lebanon on Monday appointed President Michel Aoun’s diplomatic advisor as the country’s new foreign minister after the abrupt resignation of his predecessor Nassif Hitti.

As per a decree signed by the president and prime minister, Hitti, who cited concerns over a "failed state", and stalled reforms as reasons for his resignation, will be replaced by Charbel Wehbe.
Wehbe had served as the presidentآ’s diplomatic advisor before being named the new foreign minister.
Lebanon is facing its worst economic crisis in decades, with the local currency losing around 75 percent of its value, sparking large-scale unemployment. (end) kbs.nam
