India COVID-19 cases up 52,972 to over 1.8 mln

NEW DELHI, Aug 3 (KUNA) -- India said on Monday coronavirus cases climbed by 52,972 to over 1.8 million nationwide.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare revealed in its daily update that the death toll from COVID-19 rose by 771 to 38,135.
Ministry data showed that over 1.18 million people have recovered from the deadly pandemic as it has hit all Indian states and union territories but one.
Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, New Delhi, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Telangana, West Bengal and Rajasthan are the worst affected states.
The government issued fresh guidlines amid the third phase of reopening, which came into into force recently, relaxing lockdown restrictions in areas outside of containment zones.
Night curfews have been removed and the movement of people and goods has been allowed once more across the country.
Meanwhile, public transport, cinemas, swimming pools, parks, bars, theatres, auditoriums and other social gathering venues remain shut.
Furthermore, large gatherings and social, political, sports, entertainment, academic, cultural and religious functions are not permitted under the guidelines. (end) atk.sd
