Germany, Spain discuss COVID-19 impacts ahead of EU talks

BERLIN, July 14 (KUNA) -- Germany's Chancellor Angela Merkel discussed the coronavirus pandemic's impacts with Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez ahead of the first European talks since lockdowns were imposed in March.
European Union member states each have differing opinions on tackling the matter but Germany is willing to make huge concessions to reach a common deal, she told a press conference.
The Spanish prime minister concurred, saying he too would seek a deal satisfactory to all members at the Brussels talks, scheduled in a few days.
Both Berlin and Paris had recently proposed a EUR 500 million (USD 566 million) pandemic recovery fund, which was rejected by Austria, Denmark, Netherlands and Sweden. (end) anj.sd
