BRUSSELS, July 12 (KUNA) -- Ambassadors from Gulf Cooperation Council countries and European Parliament's members underlined necessity of overcoming obstacles facing a free trade agreement between GCC and EU, a Kuwaiti Ambassador said Saturday.

Jassem Al-Budaiwi, head of Kuwait's Mission to the EU, praised level of trade exchange between the six-member GCC and the European Union, and said the coronavirus pandemic "emphasized the importance of the existence of such a commercial zone between the two sides." Al-Budaiwi was speaking to KUNA a day after hosting a working lunch with chair of the Delegation for Relations with the Arab Peninsula in the European Parliament, Hanna Neumann , and her two deputies, Caroline Nagtegaal and Marc Tarabella, with the ambassadors of the GCC to the EU and charge d'affaires of the Yemen embassy to the EU.
He stated that the GCC countries have made remarkable progress in empowering women in all leadership positions in various state institutions.
Kuwaiti women, he added, have proven their worth in the constructive participation of the Kuwaiti society, and in development in all sectors of the state.
He stressed on the need to exchange of experiences and views in the political field between Kuwaiti and European women.
Al-Budaiwi said they discussed bilateral relations and ways to develop and strengthen these relations between the states of the Arabian Peninsula and the European Parliament.
He stressed that there are many areas that relations between the two sides can be deepened and strengthened, expressing the State of Kuwait's support with peoples of Europe in the fight against the Coronavirus.
He praised the role that parliamentary diplomacy plays in deepening communication between peoples and in facing the challenges in the world and the importance of solidarity, cooperation and to combat these challenges.
Al-Budaiwi pointed out to the spirit of cooperation that the Coronavirus pandemic has shown among the peoples of the world and their support for the peoples most affected by this pandemic.
Ambassador Al-Budaiwi emphasized importance of parliamentary diplomacy in promoting cultural dialogues between the peoples of the world, and building bridges of civilized communication, and uniting international efforts in maintaining security and stability.
The Delegation for relations with the Arab Peninsula is responsible for maintaining and developing relations between the European Parliament and the countries of the Arab Peninsula (Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen). (end) nk.bs
