ALGIERS, July 11 (KUNA) -- Algeria's Ministry of Health registered on Saturday 480 new coronavirus (COVID-19) infections and eight deaths, taking the total cases to 18, 712 and the fatalities to 1,004.
Spokesman for the Coronavirus Monitoring and Follow-up Committee Dr. Jamal Furar said at a news conference that the cases witnessed a rise after a drop for two weeks, adding the infections occurred in 35 states across the country. Coronavirus death rates are much higher for people with chronic illness, he said, noting that eight deaths were registered during the last 24 hours in 40 states.
Some251 patients were recovered during the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 13,375, he revealed, stating that some 59 are still at Intensive Care Units (ICUs). (end) mr.hm
