US sets new record with almost 64,000 coronavirus cases, Brazil's cases top 1.8 million

KUWAIT, July 11 (KUNA) -- The US set another record of new coronavirus cases as almost 64,000 new cases were reported in the past 24 hours whereas Brazil's coronavirus cases surpassed 1.8 million.
According to Johns Hopkins University, the US recorded 63,900 new coronavirus cases and over 800 deaths as confirmed cases nationwide reached at least 3,181,846 and over 134,000 deaths.
This comes as nine states nationwide have over 100,000 coronavirus cases, with California hitting more than 300,000 cases to be second after New York in the highest number of cases in the US.
Meanwhile, Brazil surpassed 1.8 million confirmed coronavirus cases, according to the health ministry, as 45,048 new cases were recorded in the past 24 hours, bringing the country's total to 1,800,827.
Brazil's deaths also topped 70,000 as 1,214 new deaths were recorded in the past 24 hours.
Coronavirus cases in Latin America and the Caribbean surpassed three million this week, according to Johns Hopkins University, with Brazil, Peru and Chile having the highest number of cases. (end) si
