UN SG warns of increased foreign interference in Libya

KUWAIT, July 8 (KUNA) -- UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, on Wednesday, has warned the Security Council of increased foreign interference in Libya.
During the Security Council meeting on the situation in Libya today, Guterres described the situation as "dark", urging the international community to seize every opportunity to break the deadlock and get out of the political impasse.
"The conflict in Libya has entered a new phase with foreign interference reaching unprecedented levels," said Guterres.
He also expressed concern over the military build-up around the Libyan city of Sirte, the massive violation of the arms embargo imposed by the UN, Security Council resolutions, and the commitments made at the Berlin International Conference on Libya.
The Secretary General stressed that the UN will continue to work with the parties to reach a cease-fire and resume the political process to end the warring factions' crisis and economic collapse. (end) asf.aa
