Trump says US will "never close"

KUWAIT, July 7 (KUNA) -- US President Donald Trump said Tuesday his country is not closing and will "never close" due to the outbreak of coronavirus.
During an event at the White House, Trump reiterated, "It's time to stay open. We're not closing. We'll never close." On the reopening of schools, Trump said, "We don't want people to make political statements or do it for political reasons. They think it's going to be good for them politically, so they keep the schools closed. No way." "We're very much going to put pressure on governors and everyone else to open the schools," Trump stressed. "We will put out the fires as they come up but we have to open our schools," he noted.
Meanwhile, Trump acknowledged that there are spikes in coronavirus cases in "some areas that looked like we were going to escape, that they were going to escape and all of a sudden it became hot." "I think you're going to see with all of the things that we're doing, and with all of the therapeutics that are coming out, and then ultimately the vaccine, we're going to be in very good shape very soon," Trump said during an interview, according to the transcript.
There are 2,981,602 confirmed coronavirus cases in the US and 131,248 deaths as about 31 states are witnessing an increase in cases while 24 states have paused or rolled back their reopenings. (end) si.gb
