KFAS rewards Al-Hamad, Al-Ojairi for their efforts

KUWAIT, July 7 (KUNA) -- Kuwait Foundation for Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) rewarded Tuesday Kuwaiti Astronomer Dr. Saleh Al-Ojairi and chairman of Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (AFESD) Abdullateef Al-Hamad due to their great and intellectual services locally and globally.
KFAS stated in a press release that this prize comes with the blessing of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah in appreciation for their magnificent efforts.
Al-Hamad was born in Kuwait in 1937. He served as a member of the Kuwaiti delegation to the United Nations during its application for admission to this organization in 1962.
Moreover, Saleh Al Ojairi, a respected astronomoer born in in Kuwait 1920, was inspired to learn about the stars when his father sent him to live amongst beduins and benefit from their knowledge. His first calendar was printed in Baghdad in 1945 and was called the Ojairi calendar. Later he issued different publications such as wall calendars, pocket diaries, office diaries and others.
In addition, Ojairi is a model to follow by those thirsty for knowledge. He spent 70 years of his life struggling to learn astronomy and received highly valued medals and certificates, an act that made him a well-known scientist not only in the Arab world but also in the entire globe.(end) mah
