Japan reports 186 new virus cases, total at 19,772

TOKYO, July 5 (KUNA) - The number of Japan's new coronavirus infections rose by 186 to 19,772 over the last 24 hours as of 04:00 p.m. (0700 GMT) on Sunday, the health ministry and local authorities said. The country's death toll remained flat at 977.
Tokyo added 111 new infections, the biggest single-daily rise since May 2, which brought the total cases in the Japanese capital to 6,765. It was the fourth consecutive day for Tokyo to exceed 100 daily cases.
New cases in Tokyo has been steadily growing after the country completely lifted a state of emergency over the novel coronavirus late May.
The Tokyo metropolitan government has urged residents to refrain from visiting nightlife spots, where infections are on the rise, and making nonessential travel to other prefectures.
The tallies exclude those who were linked to the virus-hit Diamond Princess cruise ship in February. (end) mk.gta
