Iran sends letter to EU regarding implementation of JCPOA

BRUSSELS, July 3 (KUNA) -- European Union High Representative Josep Borrell Friday said he has received a letter from Iranian foreign minister Javad Zarif regarding implementation issues of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), or the Iran nuclear deal.
In a statement tonight, Borrell said the letter refers to Iran's "concerns regarding implementation issues by France, Germany and the United Kingdom under JCPOA to the Joint Commission for resolution through the Dispute Resolution Mechanism, as set out in paragraph 36 of the agreement." He noted that the "Dispute Resolution Mechanism requires intensive efforts in good faith by all. As Coordinator of the Joint Commission, I expect all JCPOA participants to approach this process in this spirit within the framework of the JCPOA." The Joint Commission, which is responsible for overseeing the implementation of the agreement under the terms of the JCPOA, has met since 2016 to discuss the implementation of the JCPOA and address pertinent issues brought to the attention of the Coordinator by any participant.
"As we approach the fifth anniversary of the JCPOA, I should like to take this opportunity to recall the importance of the agreement. The JCPOA is an historic achievement for global nuclear non-proliferation contributing to regional and global security," stressed Borrell.
According to Iranian media reports, Zarif today sent a letter to Borrell "following the irresponsible and illegal move by the three European states (Germany, Britain and France) in presenting the draft resolution at the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency, as well as the continued non-abidance with the commitments under the deal." Zarif's letter "warned that any interference in the ongoing cooperation between Iran and the IAEA would be contrary to the provisions of the JCPOA and could have negative impacts on the existing cooperation under the safeguards agreement" the Iranian news agency, IRNA, reported.
