Algerian court convicts two former premiers for corruption

ALGIERS, July 1 (KUNA) -- An Algerian court sentenced Wednesday two former Algerian premiers to 12 years in jail for corruption-related charges.
The court also convicted businessman Ali Hadad for the same case to 18 years in jail and ordered the confiscation of his properties inside and outside the country.
The court jailed Ahmad Ouyahia and Abdulmalek Sellal and fined them USD 8,000 as they exploited their power to give bills in favor of Hadad.
The court also handed some sentences to a number of officials including former public works ministers Amar Ghoul and Boujemaa Talai who are sentenced to 10 and five years in jail respectively.
Former minister of industry Abdulsalam Bouchouareb, who escaped from Algerian justice, was handed a 20-year sentence and his property was confiscated.
Last Wednesday, the same court sentenced Ouyahia and Sellal to 12 years in jail for another corruption case. (end) mr.hm
