Japan reports 48 new virus cases, total at 17,060

TOKYO, June 4 (KUNA) -- The number of Japan's new coronavirus infections rose by 48 to 17,060 over the last 24 hours as of 4 p.m. (0700 GMT) on Thursday, the health ministry and local authorities said.
The country's death toll climbed by six to 907. The hardest-hit Tokyo reported 28 additional infections, which brought the total cases in the city of about 14 million people to 5,323. The tallies exclude those who were linked to the Diamond Princess cruise ship that was quarantined near Tokyo in February.
After the government fully lifted a state of emergency last week, many areas across the country fully resumed businesses and schools on Monday. However, the Tokyo Metropolitan government on Tuesday issued an alert after confirming 34 new cases in the capital for its highest daily tally in nearly three weeks, urging residents to be stay cautious.
