France: coronavirus deaths up 85 to 29,021

PARIS, June 3 (KUNA) -- The number of French coronavirus deaths rose by 85 on Wednesday to reach 29,021 compared with Tuesday, a declining trend in line with fewer hospitalisations and critical coronavirus cases, the Health Ministry said.
In its statement, the Health Ministry indicated that hospitalisations fell to 13,514 from 14,028 over the past 24 hours and the number of critical patients in Intensive Care Units declined to 1,210 from 1,253 the previous day.
Hospitals reported 250 news admissions on Wednesday, up from 229 hospitalisations a day earlier. There were also 575 interventions in emergency rooms or by mobile emergency doctors for infection suspicions, down slightly from Tuesday's figure.
The Health Ministry also revealed that 69,455 patients have now been treated and discharged by hospitals, about 600 more than a day ago.
Since the pandemic erupted on March 1, a total of 102,133 have been hospitalised for treatment.
France has modified its data collection system to now take into account only the number of patients with coronavirus rather than those who are suspect or probable cases in other institutions like retirement homes.
This brings the official number of cases to 151,677 and does not include 37,505 cases reported in socio-medical facilities, where 10.350 have nonetheless died from the virus. (end) jk.ibi
