Austria to reopen borders with neighbors except Italy

VIENNA, June 3 (KUNA) -- The Austrian government, Wednesday, decided to open its borders with neighboring countries except with Italy, urging its citizens to take the necessary precautions when traveling abroad.
During a press conference, Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schellenberg said that health restrictions imposed on the borders will be lifted starting tomorrow Thursday.
"For Germany, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Slovakia, Slovenia, the Czech Republic and Hungary, the same rules that were prevalent before the outbreak of the epidemic will be applied as there are no longer any requirements for quarantine or testing when entering Austria," said Schellenberg.
He stated that his country's government will review the restrictions imposed on the borders with Italy next week and consider lifting them in the middle of this month if the health situation improves there.
For his part, Austrian Health Minister Rudolf Anschober said that the coronavirus is still threatening, but Austria and its neighbors have made great progress containing the disease. (end) amq.aa
