Pakistan reports new 4,000 COVID-19 cases, tally tops 80,000

ISLAMABAD, June 3 (KUNA) -- PakistanI health authorities on Wednesday confirmed over 4,000 new COVID-19 infection cases in the country in last 24 hours taking the tally of the virus to 80,463.
Pakistan's National Command and Operation Centre on Wednesday confirmed the figures that the nationwide tally of coronavirus has soared to 80,463 where 4,131 new cases were reported during the last 24 hours across the country.
The death toll due to the virus has increased to 1,688 where 28,923 patients have so far been recovered from the virus.
In last 24 hours, at least 67 people were confirmed dead due to the coronavirus across Pakistan.
The authority confirmed that 29,489 cases have so far been detected in eastern Punjab province, 31,086 in Sindh province, 10,897 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 4,740 in Baluchistan, 3,188 in capital city Islamabad, 779 in Gilgit-Baltistan region and 284 in Pakistan administered Kashmir.
Pakistan has been recording an increase in number of cases amid the ease in the lockdown this month after six weeks. Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan announced further easing of lockdown measures across the country, even as he appealed the nation to adopt standard operating procedures (SOPs) and other precautionary measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
The premier warned the country that the coronavirus will continue to spread unabated and that people need to learn to live with it until a vaccine is developed.
He said that the lockdown had caused massive suffering for people who relied on daily wages to feed their families.
The premier chairing a high level meeting in Islamabad on Wednesday directed the provincial governments to play a pro-active role to create awareness among people about implementation of SOPs to protect them from the virus.
Meanwhile, Afghan Ministry of Public Health (MpOH) has reported 759 new positive cases of corona virus in Afghanistan in past 24 hours bringing the total number of cases to16,509.
The death toll due to the virus reached 270 on Wednesday where number of recoveries nationwide is 1,450. In last 24 hours, at least five known deaths were recorded across Afghanistan. (end) sbk.rk
