S. Korea reports 49 new virus cases, total at 11,590

TOKYO, June 3 (KUNA) -- South Korea added 49 new cases of the coronavirus on Wednesday due to cluster infections tied to religious gatherings in the greater Seoul area, bringing the nation's total infections to 11,590, according to Yonhap News Agency.
The death toll increased by one to 273, the Korea Center for Disease Control and Prevention said. Church-linked transmission in Seoul and surrounding areas has been a new source of concern for health authorities.
After the government eased social distancing guidelines early May, the country has reported more than 100 cases from churches.
Nearly most of them were from the densely populated Seoul metropolitan area, home to half of the country's 50 million population.
The health authorities have warned that citizens will be forced to go back to the strict social distancing scheme nationwide should it fail to get the virus spread under control by June 14. (end) mk.rk
