China's coronavirus cases remain negligible

KUWAIT, June 2 (KUNA) -- China's record of fatalities from coronavirus (COVID-19) has remained clean amid a trifling count of infections, only five, in past 24 hours.
Chinese news agency, XINHUA, quoted a statement by the National Health Commission, on Tuesday, as saying total count of contaminations with the communicable disease, which first broke out in the Asian nation, stood at 83,022, along with the death toll at 4,634.
Five persons who came from abroad were tested positive for the coronavirus, in the past hours. Two of the cases were registered in southwestern province of Sichuan, a single case in the country's biggest city Shanghai, a key commercial hub dubbed "Paris of the East," another in southern province of Guandong, a third in the northwestern province of Shaanxi.
With the new cases, toll of infections among travelers who had returned to China from foreign countries climbed to 1,761, the commission statement added.
Eight people were discharged from hospitals in past 14 hours, raising total count of recuperated patients to 78,315.
Meanwhile, 73 persons continued receiving medical treatment, 4,642 remained under observation after mingling with infected individuals, including 547 who were relieved of medical follow up.
As to cases outside China's mainland, the commission reported 1,087 confirmed cases until yesterday (Monday) including four deaths in Hong Kong, 45 cases in Macao, 443 including seven deaths in Taiwan.
As to counts of those who were discharged from hospitals, there were 1,037 in Hong Kong, 45 in Macao and 427 in Taiwan.
Coronavirus, now widely spread worldwide, first broke out in central China, but the nation has been reporting dwindling counts with the infection since about two months ago, following stringent lockdown on many regions, cities and towns in the vast country. (end) mab.rk
