New 2,636 COVID-19 cases take Pakistan's tally to 64,000

ISLAMABAD, May 29 (KUNA) -- Pakistani health authorities on Friday confirmed 2,636 new COVID-19 cases in the country in last 24 hours, taking the total tally of the virus to 64,028.
Pakistan's National Command and Operation Centre confirmed that the nationwide tally of coronavirus soared to 64,028 where 2,636 new cases were reported during the last 24 hours across the country.
The death toll due to the virus stands at 1,317 where 22,305 patients have so far been recovered from the virus.
In last 24 hours, at least 57 people were confirmed dead due to the coronavirus across Pakistan. The authority confirmed that 22,964 cases have so far been detected in eastern Punjab province, 25309 in Sindh province, 8842 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 3928 in Baluchistan, 2100 in capital city Islamabad, 658 in Gilgit-Baltistan region, and 227 in Pakistan-administered Kashmir.
Pakistan has been recording an increase in number of cases amid the ease in the lockdown this month after six weeks. Earlier, Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan in an online global event stressed the need of dealing with the economic problems caused by the COVID-19 pandemic holistically as a global issue.
"If developed countries put their minds together and treat this as a global situation, I think we will all come out of it unscathed. Right now things look bleak, but if we treat it as a global issue the world will come out of it," said the premier.
Meanwhile, Afghan Ministry of Public Health (MpOH) has reported 580 new cases of corona virus in Afghanistan in past 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases to 13,036.
The death toll due to the virus reached 235 on Friday where number of recoveries nationwide is 1,209. In last 24 hours, at least eight known deaths were recorded across Afghanistan, it said in a statement. (end) sbk.mt
