France to ease internal travel restrictions, review border closures

PARIS, May 28 (KUNA) -- France will withdraw travel restrictions as of June 2 and will review the border closures put in place with non-EU countries on June 15, Prime Minister Edouard Philippe said on Thursday.
In announcing the easing of the lockdown in place for over two months, Philippe said that the 100-kilometre restriction on travel within France would end as it had served its purpose in stemming the spread of coronavirus.
Philippe, in a TV broadcast, also said restrictions and confinement conditions on travellers from other European Union countries would no longer be implemented, but France will act on a "reciprocal basis" and would put conditions on countries in line with their policies towards travellers from France.
He said he hoped travel would resume freely between EU nations next month as the coronavirus pandemic seems to be easing throughout Europe.
Concerning travel to and from countries outside the European Union, the Prime Minister said that he favoured a review of the situation on June 15 to evaluate health conditions in those countries.
Currently, there is no travel allowed to or from non-EU countries. (end) jk.bs
