Airbus says it is cutting production by one third

PARIS, April 8 (KUNA) -- European aircraft-maker Airbus Industries said Wednesday it was scaling back aircraft production by around 33 percent because of the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic and the negative effect on airlines.
Airbus said in a statement that its output of new aircraft would have to be scaled back and this "represents a reduction in the pre-coronavirus average rates of roughly one third." The company said it is seeking to keep its ability to meet demand but also protect its ability to adapt to the changing global market.
"The impact of this pandemic is unprecedented. At Airbus, protecting our people and supporting the fight against the virus are our chief priorities at this time," the statement said. (end) jk.mt
