Bernie Sanders quits US presidential race

WASHINGTON, April 8 (KUNA) -- US Democratic Party presidential candidate Senator Bernie Sanders announced Wednesday he was quitting the race, paving way for former Vice-President Joe Biden to be party candidate against President Donald Trump in November elections.
"I cannot ... Continue to mount a campaign that cannot win, and which would interfere with the important work required of all of us in this difficult album," Sanders told his supporters through a screen.
"But let me say this, very emphatically, as you will know. We have never been just a campaign. We are a grassroots multiracial multi generational movement, which has always believed that real change, never comes from the top on down, but always from the bottom on.
"The path for victory is virtually impossible ... I have concluded that this battle for the Democratic nomination will not be successful. So today I am announcing the suspension of my campaign," said Sanders.
Sanders could not match Biden in recent primaries, making it impossible for him to continue the race. (end) asj.bs
