Italy mourns 112 deaths among medical, nursing staff due to Covid-19

ROME, April 6 (KUNA) -- The novel coronavirus (Covid-19) claimed at least 87 lives among the ranks of the frontline medical staff and 25 nurses in Italy, a report showed on Monday.
At least 12,252 health workers, including a senior official, have contracted the virus, the Italian Supreme Institute of Health (ISS) reported.
Italy's National Federation of Orders of Surgeons and Dentists (FNOMCeO) on Monday mourned seven coronavirus-associated deaths among its members, which brought the death toll among the medical staff to 87, according to the report.
Twenty-five nursing staff died from the Covid-19 while infections among the medical and nursing staff surged to 12,252.
The nursing staff represent 52 percent of the overall number of infection cases among health workers, the ISS report added.
Meanwhile, Nicola Magrini, head of the Italian Medicines Agency (AIFA), has reportedly tested positive for the pandemic.
Italy, the world's hardest hit by Covid-19, has suffered 15,887 deaths and 128,948 infections, according to data released yesterday. (end) mn.gb
