Spain records lowest figure of coronavirus victims since March 24

MADRID, April 6 (KUNA) -- Up to 637 people lost their lives to the coronavirus pandemic in a single day, lowest figure of disease-caused fatalities in Spain since March 24 when the number during same duration stood at 514.
Spanish Ministry of Health in its online update report, on Monday, said number of the contagion related mortalities reached 13,055.
A total of 4,273 people contracted the disease, in 24 hours, bringing total figure of such cases to 135,032, the ministry said.
Statistics showed continuous decline of the pandemic casualties that peaked on April 2, when the nation sustained 950 lives' loss in one day.
The official statement said 40,437 hospitalized persons who recuperated of the contagion were discharged but 59,622 remained at the hospitals.
It reported number of infections in Madrid rose to 38,732 and deaths in the capital to 5,136. In Catalonia, infections amounted to 26,824 and 2,760 deaths. Central region of Castilla-La Mancha recorded 10,602 infections and 1,132 fatalities.
Northwestern region of Castile and Leon declared 9,116 cases and 919 deaths. In the Basque, there were 8,810 persons contaminated with the virus in addition to 548 deaths, while in Andalucia there were 8,581 sick people and 491 who have lost their lives.
Meanwhile, President of the Islamic Communities in Spain Riaj Tatary, 72, got infected with the virus and passed away after hospital admission, the Spanish-Arab Cultural Forum said in a statement.
Spain is in its 23rd day of emergency amid a curfew expiring on April 13. The government is seeking parliamentary approval to extend the emergency to April 26. (end) hnd.rk
