China's coronavirus casualty pattern remains assuring

KUWAIT, April 6 (KUNA) -- China maintained an assuring pattern regarding coronavirus casualties with only a single fatality reported on Monday.
As to number of infections, the Chinese National Health Commission also reported a reasonable figure -- by the nation standards which first witnessed outbreak of COVID-19 at alarming rates -- only 39 over past hours.
Whole count of the virus-claimed fatalities now stands at 3,331 and infections at 81,708, according to the Chinese commission.
The panel, as cited by the Chinese news agency XINHUA, said a single person was contaminated with the infectious virus in Guangdong (formerly Canton), a coastal province of southeast China that borders Hong Kong and Macau.
Remarkably, birthplace of COVID-19, central province of Hubei including provincial capital Wuhan, continued to report very low figures of casualties.
Chinese authorities have recently started slackening tight-noose precautionary and containment measures in Hubei, in shadow of dwindling casualty counts. They began first by allowing people to enter the region which was totally isolated late last year.
In its latest updated, the health commission also reported that 38 infection cases were of travelers who came to the country, increasing number of such cases to 951, including 258 persons who were discharged from hospitals. However, 693 others continued to get medical treatment -- including 22 in critical condition.
The sole fatality was recorded over the past 24 hours in Hubei.
There are 10 suspected cases; all came from abroad, while number of critical conditions dropped to 265, 114 left hospitals over the past 24 hours, bringing number of those relieved of the sickness to 77,078.
Furthermore, the records show 78 new infection cases but without symptoms. Additionally, 50 persons were relieved of medical examination and 1,047 others without symptoms remained under observation.
Up to 890 confirmed cases had been recorded until Sunday. They included four in Hong Kong, 44 in Macau, 363 including five deaths in Taiwan.
Up to 206 patients have been discharged from hospitals in Hong Kong, along with 54 in Macau. (end) mab.rk
