China declares only 3 new deaths from coronavirus

KUWAIT, April 5 (KUNA) -- Chinese authorities declared on Sunday three new mortalities resulting from the globally spread pandemic coronavirus in addition to 30 freshly recorded cases of people who contracted the germ in the Asian nation.
Chinese National Health Commission said its daily report total number of persons who lost their lives due infection with novel coronavirus reached 3,329 and confirmed infection cases 81,669.
It said among the newly registered infection cases, five got the virus locally, indicating that the remaining 25 were travelers who came back to China.
The commission added that number of suspected cases amounted to 11 -- all of them came from abroad -- and figure of critical cases dropped to 295.
Moreover, number of patients who were discharged from hospital, over the past 24 hours, reached 213, bringing overall figure of such cases to 76,964.
A total of 1,376 patients continue to receive treatment and 17,436 remained under medical observation. This category of the afflicted had mingled with infected persons.
China was the first nation that reported coronavirus cases late last year. The outbreak prompted authorities to place whole cities under lockdown, but several days ago, they started loosening up tight containment restrictions amid declining proportions of patients and fatalities. (end) mab.rk
