Japan reports 396 new virus cases, total at 3,674

TOKYO, April 5 (KUNA) - The number of Japan's new coronavirus infections rose by 396 to 3,674 as of 4:00 p.m. (0700 GMT) on Sunday, excluding 712 people who were aboard the virus-hit Diamond Princess cruise ship, the authorities said.
The death toll climbed by seven to 85, excluding 11 from the cruise ship that was quarantined near Tokyo in February, according to the health ministry and local governments.
Tokyo confirmed 143 additional infections for a record-high daily increase, which brought the total number of cases in the Japanese capital to 1,034.
On Saturday, Tokyo Governor Koike Yuriko again urged residents to refrain from non-essential, non-urgent outings over the weekend amid a steady increase in the number of infection cases in the prefecture. (end) mk.gta
