BERLIN, April 3 (KUNA) -- Number of people who contracted the novel coronavirus reached 79,696 and deaths 1,017, the medical institute Robert Koch said on Friday.
The institute said in a statement number of contaminations continued to rise however precautions enforced nationwide proved largely effective.
A single infected person has contaminated only another one, the institute said, indicating that citizens generally heeded authorities' instructions on social distancing and limiting public movement.
Meanwhile, government press office said in a statement Chancellor Angela Merkel ended voluntary home quarantine and went to her office to resume regular duties.
Merkel had quarantined herself after mingling with a doctor who bore the COVID-19 virus. (end)
