Germany confirms 5,000 more COVID-19 cases, total at 61,913

BERLIN, March 31 (KUNA) -- Germany on Tuesday reported nearly 5,000 additional infections with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), raising the count of its confirmed cases to 61,913.
Germany also announced 128 more fatalities, bringing this European country's mortality rate to 583, as announced by the country's Robert Koch Institute in a daily press briefing.
The institute ascribed the low death toll compared with the count of infections to the fact that German health authorities had made early disease detections and were conducting wide-scale virus tests nationwide. (end) anj.mt
