Largest single day coronavirus deaths in Washington region - Washington Post

WASHINGTON, March 30 (KUNA) -- The highest number of coronavirus deaths in a single day was reported in the Washington region with 16 reported deaths, bringing the total number of deaths up to 51, the Washington Post said Sunday.
The post indicated that the coronavirus deaths increased today to 26 in Virginia, 16 in Maryland and nine in the nation's capital.
The Washington Post added that Maryland also reported its "largest single-day increase" of coronavirus cases, with 246 new cases, increasing the number of cases to 1,240.
Mayor of D.C. Muriel Bowser tweeted that there are 59 new positive cases, bringing the overall positive cases in the nation's capital to 401 and four additional deaths.
In a separate tweet, she noted that she has declared "both a local state of emergency and a public health emergency, and have authorized the activation of the District's Emergency Operations Center." According to the Virginian-Pilot, Virginia's coronavirus cases increased to about 900 on Sunday, a 151 increase from Saturday's tally, "the single biggest increase in terms of total cases." Meanwhile, President Donald Trump approved the District of Columbia Disaster Declaration, declaring that a major disaster exists in the District of Columbia due to the "Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic." According to a CNN tally, the only two states in the US with no reported coronavirus deaths are Hawaii and Wyoming, as West Virginia reported its first death Sunday evening.
There are at least 139,714 coronavirus cases and over 2,400 deaths across the nation. (end) si.mb
