China reports five coronavirus deaths

KUWAIT, March 27 (KUNA) -- China said Friday five people died of coronavirus, while only one person tested positive with COVID-19 in mainland and 54 cases came from abroad.
The National Health Commission said in its daily statement, received by KUNA in Kuwait, one coronavirus infection was registered in Xinjiang. It did not report any case in central province of Hubei, the epicenter of the virus.
The commission said 54 travelers tested positive, raising total infections of people who came from outside China to 595.
It said five fatalities registered in the past 24 hours were all in Hubei, increasing number of deaths to 3,292, while registered infections stood at 81,340.
Number of people suspected of being infected was 49, while critical cases dropped to 1,034. Up to 537 people recovered to make total recoveries to 74,588.
The commission said 3,460 people still being treated and 16,005 persons under supervision because they came into close contact with infectees.
It added that up until Thursday, 453 cases were registered in Hong Kong including four deaths, 33 in Macau and 252 in Taiwan including two deaths.
Up to 110 people recovered in Hong Kong, 10 in Macau and 29 in Taiwan. (end) mab.bs
