Spain: Coronavirus infection cases jump to 30

MADRID, Feb 28 (KUNA) -- Spanish authorities said Friday that the number of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) cases increased to 30 after confirming seven infections.
Head of Spain's Coordination Center for Health Alerts and Emergencies Fernando Simon said that five new cases were registered in Andalusia, southern Spain, noting simultaneously that major activities and events are still not cancelled.
He urged those suspected of being infected to not go to health centers and hospitals, but to call the health emergency number and stay at their homes while awaiting medical assistance.
Spanish State Television quoted Health ministry sources as saying that the first case recorded in Spain's capital, Madrid is for a 66-year-old man.
The second case was in Aragon province to a 27-year-old man who recently returned from Italy.
The number went up to five confirmed cases in Madrid, three in Barcelona, five in Canary Islands, eight in Valencia, six in Andalusia in addition to three cases in two other areas.
Regarding the four COVID-19 cases in Spain of people who did not travel abroad and did not contact other patients, the authorities are still searching for 'patient zero' to determine how the virus transmitted, in order to take the necessary measures to control it. (end) hnd.lr
